One day from up in the rafters Giant watched soldier's horses that had come to the stable to eat and drink. The army horses looked down their long noses at the stable animals. The squirrel dreamed of doing something heroic like joining them in battle. Giant jumped down onto the manger so he could talk with the horses. The troop laughed with mouths full of hay. "Go find a nut you runt!" grunted the commander's horse.

For the first time Giant realized that the others might be right and he would never protect a king. The small squirrel sadly climbed to the ceiling and disappeared into his nest.
